The Greek Underground Scene - 2014 Vol. 1 Compilation

In August of 2013, Mike Pougounas, singer of New Zero God, came up with the idea of uniting the Greek underground rock scene.

The first thing he did was to ask fifteen random Greek bands to join in a free digital download compilation. That same day, fifteen bands signed up to take part and the compilation was posted to Bandcamp on September 12, 2013.

The idea was for the compilation to be circulated for free in order to provide information about the existing Greek underground rock scene. Due to the financial crisis of the country there simply have been no means for the underground audience to be informed of the activities of the Greek bands. The original concept was made as a means to unite the Greek underground rock scene for the first time.

This page has been made, not only for the bands, but also for the people who support The Greek Underground Scene.

There are several plans in the works, including charity festivals to gather medications, food, and clothing for people in need.

Have an idea? Share it with us! The continued success of this project will rely upon your contribution to it!

The Greek Underground Scene - 2013 Compilation

Something new has sprung up from the Greek undreground scene, titled 'The Greek Underground Scene - 2013 Compilation'.
The collection was created and distributed for free by Mike Pougounas (New Zero God).

You'll have the opportunity to listen to artists, such as Mani Deum, Skinner Box, Grain, New Zero God, Electro Vampires. You can give the compilation (more than) a listen it for free, by downloading it from the greek underground scene .

The Greek Underground scene is a vivid part in the Greek society. Despite the fact that we are all face our economical and social issues, it has nothing to envy from the scenes abroad. The bands keep releasing EP's in Greece and abroad alike, the press gives them worldwide mentions, concerts are taking place and the radio stations play their songs. The Greek Underground is very dynamic; however, due to the chaos nowadays, it doesn't reach the Greek audience. Labels have closed down, shows were cancelled, radio stations and magazines were shut down, all of which creating barriers in spreading of information. Luckily, we still have the internet, which is immediate and fast. My thought was to create a Facebook group, in order to present the bands that are out there to the audience, which wanted to participate; so we can view things from a different perspective, now that the world we knew exists no more. This first free compillation features 15 bands and can be downloaded and distributed to anyone and in any way. Should this project succeed, this will give us the opprtunity of making more such compillations. We are also planning to make concerts for noble causes, maybe gather medicine, money or anything for people in need... We all have to give a helping hand in our own way, in order to make sadness go away. When you download this compilation please DO NOT PAY. If you like it, simply pass it on to your friends. Be well and thank you very much!!!

POST - INTO THE ABYSS projects:
Masterkey & Lenin's Modem

After returning to Greece, Iannis Kalifatidis, lead singer and guitarist of ITA, formed two short-lived band, first MASTERKEY and later LENIN'S MODEM, with which he recorded each one song.
The song performed by MASTERKEY is a cover version of Pink Floyd's Eclipse, which appeared on More Relics - A Tribute To Pink Floyd (Sysyphus Records, 2001, Germany, available on double LP and on CD).

The Unquiet Federation is the only ever recorded song by LENIN'S MODEM. The latter was originally released in 2002 on a CD compilation accompanying the Greek magazine Rock Jam. A year later, the song reappeared on the CD compilation Gew Gaw's Quadraphonic Snail (Nowhere Street Music, gg483).

After the band split, Iannis remained dormant until 2010, when he formed the band Penny Dreadful. The band's debut album Deadwood was released October 10th, 2013, both on vinyl (limited to 300 numbered copies) and on CD digisleeve through B Minor Records and the band's own label Lenin's Modem.
